come on short folk.....give me some idea's for a frame to make tourable..for the wife.

looked at a 42cm surly lht, standover seems a issue for the wife, I thought it looked ok, but I wont be riding it.

Does it have to be steel? What about one of the bigger islabikes?

Inbred would work well in terms of long rear chainstays (pannier - heel clearance) and small standover.

But they are pretty long in the top tube so would need to make sure that isn't a problem (especially if wanting to fit drop bars). They are also not exactly light or slim tubed - I got one for eldest lad and to be honest it is a bit of a lump - 35mm top and down tubes, presumably so the largest size + suspension fork can pass the fatigue tests. So maybe a bit overkill as a small tourer.

Hewitt do off the peg Cheviot frames that are quite well thought out.

I think Thorn still do some 26" wheeled touring bikes.

Anything at Dawes?

woody, showed her the islabikes....she just frowned, ๐Ÿ˜†

thought about a inbred, but too much of a compromise really.
dawes do a womens tourer (karakoum), it weighs more than my 62cm lht.
thorn could be a option, and I will have a look at Hewitt.

cheers

I use an old steel Rockhopper as a Tourer.
Project 2 on the front, flat bars & a rack.
They did a 15 inch frame - I'm 5 foot 6ish and ride a 17.

It handles very well indeed, heel clearance is fine, it's light and you can still use it as an MTB if you need to.

How about Ellis Briggs, Bob Jackson or Mercian?
All do off the peg Tourers.
