Dear All,

I am considering to buy the Cube Reaction GTC Race 29. The only bad point is the 9mm QR for a 29er.

Do you know if the fork can receive a 15mm maxle? It is not clear on sram website

(of course changing the wheels)

Thanks

If you want the forks to have 15mm Maxle, you'd have to replace the lowers which would be costly.

The drop outs are different so no - unless you change the fork lowers. About £250 for the replacement lowers.

Yeah probably cheaper/simpler to sell off the forks on the bike before use and get a new set off Merlin or the like

Exactly... 9 mm QR or Maxle Lite 15 mm. In the same way 1-1/8" or 1.5 to 1 1/8" Taper

The fork comes set up for 9mm alternatively it is available set up for 15mm. Their English could be clearer but....

Yes you'll need new forks(or fork lowers) and a 15mm front wheel. Is the next bike up not equipped with a 15mm fork?

Fundamental question - why do you think you need 15mm?

I have two bikes, one with qr and one with 15mm both are reba forks. I am hard pressed to tell the difference 90% of the time.

Suggestion - stick with 9mm qrs.

just because even in the dealer, it was told that a 29er with 9mm is a lack of rigidity.
He told me that it is not a problem on 26er.
That's why I ask this question to specialists as you, I am novice on this technical things.
What I would like to avoid is to by the Race, then in a few months, buy new rims, and so spend the same money as the difference of the two bikes today...
Thanks for your time

Hi, I have a 26er with 15mm bolt thru, & a 29er with 9 mm qr (same forks as you mention above).

At first I was a bit concerned the 9mm qr may not be up to it but after a few months & a few offs I really can't see any difference.

Now I don't even think about it.

So even if I change rims later, keeping 9mm is an option?
