I am wanting to get back into going for long distance rides and though I love my Geometron after 8 hours of riding with its 160mm of travel and rugged components leaves me wanting something a bit lighter.

So I looking for a lightish short travel bike with slackish head angle Im not sure what's out there. So Looking for ideas of what's out there for a full suspension that has a slacker head angle than 67 degrees with a reach greater 500mm.

Whyte S120 looks good, providing you like 29ers.

Not fashionably niche, but new Stumpy comp?

The Saturn 11 is the xc/marathon version if you want to keep it all in brand. 120mm/105mm front/rear so a bit less than you are after. Just slightly steeper than 67deg and the reach is over 500mm in the biggest size.

Not sure on your budget but in true STW tradition I'll suggest what I've got and say evil following. Pedals brilliantly, descends much better than I do and builds up to a very respectable weight.

It is a smidgen over 67 degrees with a 130 fork but it's a great ride.

Stumpy evo st is 67.5 and by all accounts its a hoot.

Edit, just reread and noticed 500mm reach. That's a loooong reach on a short travel bike. What size are you looking for, I'm guessing XL at that?

Transition smuggler (140/120), bit more in the front but won’t feel it in a bad way? Whyte 120 definitely worth a look.

I am sort of tempted in the same way. But I have relatively large (2.5/2.4 width) and chunky tread tyres on my 160mm Transition. So I could lose some rolling resistance there.

I often use a long travel, steel hard tail for local stuff, which makes me hark back to a softer rear end.

I think the Whyte range is always worth a look for 120mm bikes.

I love my FlareMax for all day rides, but it doesn't fit the OP's requiremens of "light". I had a Trance back in 2012, which was light for an alloy bike and a very good XC/Trail bike. Assimung that hasn't changed I'd be giving the new Trance 29er a look. Especially in bright green 🙂

Hi

Thanks for all the replays. Completely forgot about bird and Whyte.

Yes looking xl or xxl as I am 6'5ish.

Should have mentioned budget in the range of £2.5k to £3.5k which quite a few above will fit into.

Going to see if I can demo the Whyte

Scott Spark is around 67 degrees but feels slacker but the reach is only 477mm. That said, when I first rode one I thought the cockpit was too short but stopped even noticing it after a couple of minutes.

I was going to say Bird Aeris 120... /stealth ad, I have one for sale 🙂 EDIT: Not one that size, as you were!

I was runing mine with a 140mm fork tho. Still felt lively.

Santa Cruz Tallboy in XXL with a 130-140 fork.

SC Tallboy in XXL with a 130-140 fork. I’m 6’1ish on an XL and don’t find mine overly short, not even next to the NP Mega 290 I recently sold which had 515mm reach.

Seen some bargain Tallboys within budget but unfortunately slim chance of finding a XXL I guess.

Orange segment meet the criteria, start fitness have up to a grand off.

Think drake cycles still have a factory version with 2k off.

Going to keep my eye on the thread, as I wouldn’t mind a lightish short travel 29er to replace my Spesh Camber Evo that’s a bit small for me.  New Whyte looks interesting, but I wonder if Giant will be doing an AnthemX 29 sometime(?)

Suggestion wise, how about an Orange Stage 4?

What Geometron do you have? A G13 is everything you're looking for surely?
