I know this had probably been asked a 100 times before on here, but I want a definitive answer for my set up if possible. I keep reading bits online, some say it works fine, some say that it doesn't, I just need to know facts for my set up before I spend money.

So my bike is an Orange Five 26er 18 inch frame.

1x10 set up.

Front ring is hope 32t.

Rear mech is Shimano XT M786 Shadow Clutch MEDIUM Cage. 35T capacity.

Current rear cassette is 11-36, I want to put an 11-42 on to help with climbing.

Chain is KMC 10XL (not sure how many links).

So my questions:

Will my rear mech take 11-42? If NOT, will it take an 11-40?

Will I need a longer B screw?

Will I need a longer chain?

Any other things I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance.

I don't think you'll find a definitive answer to all your questions.

Chances are unless your chain is too long as it is it'll need replaced. But then if you're putting a new cassette on the old chain may be too worn to work with it.

Different bike but I have a medium SLX on a 42:11, it worked ok but better with a Goat link. Didn't need a longer b screw.

I'd buy the cassette and chain and have a go.
