Usual thing this week - we WILL go for a trip next week fear not!
Meet at the Shoppe at 6pm
Meet at Bonaly General Store at 7pm
All welcome as normal - good turn out last wee will be hard to beat but let's give it a shot.
Probably try that evil Dreghorn hill again after a play in the Barracks woods and then have a wander based on TJ's mutterings and cursings etc. Failing that we will pick something on the night.
Over and out.
Tuesday Back n Arms, Wednesday biking...
I'm still hurtin from a big weekend ride, but will do my best to be there, Ron.
Hmm... i had been planning to bring the singlespeed out to play but might have to chip the rust off the geared bike instead, that Dreghorn hill WILL go ๐
I wanna be on you!
I'm so there this week.
I'm going to try and make this. Where is the stores? I'll get out of work early and explore your mincecore trails.
After my first outing a few weeks ago I'm going to try and make this one.
Hopefully be at ye olde shoppe at 6.
Hopefully be at ye olde shoppe at 6.
Nae hope about it
See you there. 8)
MD.... you ordered dry trails and plenty sun for the morn?
Thomo.
You better be coming btw after being absent for a few weeks. I need someone to walk their bike up the hills with. heh.
Happy to walk up with you... just along as you dinnae expect to walk back down with you too!! ๐
Will do my best matey... no so keen if the weather's cack tho.
It's just weather!
Above the clouds it's all still sunny and clear.
I'll let you know the morn, one way or tother.
Lovin the schwalbes on the work bike BTW... cheers for advice.
ken, they is the bestest.
pic of bike?
we need to get you onto some Brooks action to complete 'TEH look'.
B-17 in Brown. Will be lovely. Oh and you need a rack as well or at least a Carradice bag.
No last minute arrivals for me this week. I'm tapering this week and also probably working late due to the rain..
...tapering...?
Thats training talk for "I'm ****ed".
thought so. I used that just for the E-Tape de Scotch.
You should come anyway - i am similarly buggered but got to keep at it. Having bodies like ours Steve is a responsibility. We owe it to the girls to look after them.
Might manage a couple of gentle local rides this week but tomorrow night is looking busy. But you are right and all this hard work shouldn't go to waste, thats what I tell her indoors every night anyway.
Intended to make this one, but now have childcare duty.
With Saturdays circuit of Ben Alder in the blazing heat still at the fore-front of my mind (didn't know you could get singletrack THAT good in the Southern Highlands...shame about the total **** of a push-up/down/along to get to the last bit tho')I am wondering if wet Pentlands might be an anticlimax???
Burn the heretic!!!!
I'll be at Bonaly. If anyone needs a lift from the Livingston area let me know.
* fits Trailrakers *
I'm tapering, too. Otherwise known as my body has packed up on me after a big weekend ride. I do need Ron's training regime.
I have more sandbagging excuses at will.
jimmy you are the single most effective flood defence system i have ever met. in my life.
see you there.
evening all, sorry for the slight hijack but is anyone up for an earlier start? Could be at Bonaly around 1745-1800. Looked like you had too many last week anyway ๐
But we'll flying next week after a recovery week ๐
I'll be there if I can get a 31.6 mm dia seatpost for the new (to me anyway) XC race bike. Does the shoppe have any available for my good self to purchase tomorrow?
I have more sandbagging excuses at will.
You were going to give me one of your 'special' massages, weren't you?
I'm looking good for tonight, see y'all at t'shop.
Ant-we have Ragley or Thomson.
The MET Office have emailed me personally to suggest a new route of a loop called 'The Pub'. It is under consideration...

I was contemplating a lap round the sofa and into the kitchen for tea.
Pentlands look miserable (or at least the bits I can see between clouds) at the mo from my office window.

That makes me feel less bad about not making along tonight! ๐ณ
It's looking nice now.
I've just picked up one of those GoPro Wide's so will no doubt be up in the Pentlands tonight having a play with it, so will keep an eye out for a monster group (if last weeks pics are anything to go by).
Been considering going for a while and will do my best to make it next week.
Alanr, Il be travelling from Armadale so would make sense to go through with you.
tonight is a GO!
From my superior vantage point I can say the Pentlands are now rain and cloud free though a bit blustery. Still seems to be autumn but at least it's a fairly pleassant autumn day now. No excuses! See y'all at Bonaly
It'll be wet underwheel though so we might want to avoid the usual mudpits.
I'm out ๐
Managed three weeks touring the northwest highlands then pulled a muscle in my back riding into work this morning...
just selected some waterproof shorts from the stock...
I'm out. Excuses in order or priority;
1. I feel rubbish
2. I have birthday prep for tomorrow
3. Its been pishing for 4 days
I don't mind wetness but in combination with other lameness = SANDBAGS
It's too windy, and I'm going to take advantage of the brief dryness to go and mow the lawn. Will make it out on some of these midweek rides in a week or two... or three.
I need to get out. If i make it to the shop by 7 i'll see you there but don't wait. Any ideas of the route? I can always head the same way or intercept you somewhere?
cheers
Mark (or Random Integrale Bloke)
lets go smoke out your tyres on the Integrale sometime!
ace pic, rob ๐
Only saw a couple of other mountain bikers up there this evening, although the Harlaw car-park was just about the busiest I've seen it mid-week as there was some open water swimming going on in the reservoir, plus quite a lot of runners.
I decided to stay low and in the trees and out of the wind as it was pretty blowy, and quite muddy in places as well.
well 10 YES 10! brave souls made it out - it were fine. Just a bit blustery.
We stayed low - Clubbidean, Poets, Rangers Path, Nail Trail, Chocolate Chute and back to home.
29miles on the magic garmin robot. Not too bad.
It's not uber rad core but it gets us all out and gives us the Thursday smugness. Thanks for attending guys!
Some more new faces appeared too - love seeing new members to the group.
Anyway - next week.... lets go messing about somewhere else... did someone say Freeride area...? Skills n stuff...
I want more of our rides to involve people riding into seemingly innocent puddles that turn out to be about 3 feet deep. As long as it's not me. Another fine ride, cheers!
(Rigid forks are the new nichecore you know.)
Sadly I was unable to obtain a woman pass. I've prebooked for next week though so will charge fae fife to Bonally.
I'm bringing the fast bike.
i slept well last night and I can still feel it in my legs this morning. A great ride out and it didn't rain too- bonus. I must say I was made up by the huge response at the suggestion of a bivvy trip.... ๐ I think the concept needs to sink in with some people or pehaps the idea of BBQs and beer are alien to a bunch of honed athletes with only thoughts on the next training block and racing?
I hope to make it out on one of these rides once I've recovered from injury.
Don't recognise some of those trail names although I may well have ridden them.
Which is the Rangers Path and Chocolate Chute?
Chocolate Chute is just off the water of leith footpath, it's easiest to find from the bottom, out near Balerno. It's right before the last proper bridge, where the footpath/railway line crosses over the river for the last time before you reach the end of the main path, at Balerno. Ride out to that bridge and look left, ie south, and you'll see a sort of muddy flight of steps leading up, which turns into a load of roots.
If you bash this into google maps this is more or less where it starts. 55.891815, -3.320793 It's a short push up or heroically ridden climb, then the rest is easily rideable as a climb, but it's definately a descent.
Thanks for that. I think I know where you mean.
