Can anyone recommend (pros/cons?) a helmet/head camera for about £100?
It would be for use as an insurance policy for commuting through town - e.g. getting number plates clearly etc.

does anyone own an 'Epic Wide Action Video Cam'? - if so are they any good?

cheers

veho muvi pro?
£35ish on ebay, you can buy a waterproof case and the battery is supposed to be good for two hours.
I have bought one for a trip to the alps.
very small indeed and surprsingly good quality footage.

HEDCAM is fully self contained with a built-in battery that gives 1.5 to 2 hours of filming in 720p HD mode. It takes MicroSD cards up to 32 GB which will give you hours of 720p video footage. It comes with a range of mounting options allowing you to mount it on your head, arm, helmet, MTB, motorcycle, ski goggles and even your swimming goggles. It can be used for filming practically anything, whether it’s your favourite snow sport or filming the kids playing in the garden. It’s so small and light you don’t even know it’s there. Best of all, its waterproof to 10 metres too!
This really is a great package. It even includes a mains charger and a 4GB MicroSDHC card!

Also do a wider version lots of videos to be found om their site.
very small compact light and massive amounts of mounting options

My £15 camera is good enough to get number plates etc. Search on my forum name to find some examples. (Youtube reduces the quality a lot)
I wouldn't bother paying £100 for a commuting camera when these are available

(They also sell them complete with memory card)

DezB - yep a bargain! I got one after seeing your hairy commuting episodes.
For the money a great bit of kit - went for the one with the 8gb sd card in the end.

Well, they ain't much good off road! Don't think they are really designed for that sorta thing 🙂
Main issue with using for insurance is resetting the damn date every time you use it!

The £15 camera? Comes with a bar mount. As I say, it's not much good for off road. Works fine for a commuting camera as the OP asked. Bar mounted, nice n small, easy to use. About a 2hr battery life.

It'd be ok, I reckon. Not HD, of course, but you'd get Youtube-able vids out of it..

Er, yes I've had so much abuse lately (hot weather anything to do with it?) on roads in central nottingham - got a case going to magistrates court right now of a scumbag attempting to ram his car in me for no discernable reason - so yes unfortunately for those times when I have to ride alone, evidence is needed...
