[Closed] 10 speed cassettes - what's the reasoning on the use of 12t smallet cogs?

Seems to be the norm when you look at many 10speed cassettes. Is it simply to keep people 'spinning'?!

if i was cynical, i would say its so they can release 'new' versions later, complete with 11t sprockets.

Does it seem to be the norm? Are we talking road or MTB?

I'd say not, more so on the road, where the close jumps are nice, but there's a full range of 11-up cassettes available in most groupsets. A lot of manufacturers will spec a 12-25 over an 11-23 - no punter likes to admit his £5000 bike is too highly geared for him to ride up their local hills, whilst lots will be happy boasting they spin out!
