Need to swap chainset to compact on sons roadbike. Drivetrain is currently 9 speed, but can't find budget Tiagra etc 9 spd compact - will a 10 speed chainset work OK?

As said, will work fine. Just for reference, I'm running an 11'speed chainset with 10sp chain and kit and that works fine too.
