The best guide to mountain bike routes in Sardinia, “Sole, Sale e Salita”, was published in 1991 and has been out of print and unavailable for a long time. Its author, Chicco Porcu, has scanned his own copy and you can download a pdf from here. It has an introduction and glossary in English, so non-Italian speakers, with a bit of practice, can use it. 3 of the 26 routes are 1 hour by car from where we live in Ogliastra: Codula di Sisine (the valley bottom which we use to come back up from Sisine, we go down from the plateau above), Lago Alto Flumendosa, and Codula Sa Mela above Urzulei. Others nearby are in the Supramonte between Oliena, Orgosolo and Dorgali. The guide contains profiles and maps (NOT IGM maps) and good descriptions, and is a good guide to use if you are travelling all over this large island (bigger than Wales!). The routes we are documenting from The Lemon House on the other hand are all in Ogliastra, starting from or near to The Lemon House, and we use GPS and Google Earth, tools not available in 1991, to help with the documentation. We include as well some (very) easy routes for families.
