Fresh Goods Friday 806: The UCI Drops Es Edition

Whilst we’re all still reeling from the UCI’s decision to not run the E-Mountain Bike Cross-country World Cup in 2026 – whatever are we to do? – it’s time to delve into this week’s arrivals and no-no-shows at Singletrack Towers, Todmorden, UK, Earth.

Let’s go!

Airdrop Filter MX

Some bikes arrive and just make you think, designing bikes is not that hard is it? Why do so many brands make such a song and dance about it? This Filter MX from Airdrop is one such bike. Very much in the Privateer and Raaw vibe, it’s seemingly hard to make a silver metal bike 4-bar bike look bad. The Filter MX is Airdrop’s mullet wheel trail bike. 150mm fork (in that most excellent of RockShox reds) and 140mm rear travel. Unsurprisingly for Airdrop, the Filter is very much a case of the brand sticking by their guns. Decent geometry. Long dropper. High bars. Externally routed cabling. Bottle mounts. Tool mounts. UK mud clearance. Actually standard standards. And crucially, masses of standover. Looks very fun.

Rudy Project Terraform Pro Helmet

Goggles not included (see below). The Terraform Pro is one of those pizza delivery guy moped style helmets. Of which I am something of a fan, when it’s cold at least. I can also see why enduro racers would be into such hats; it gives a reassuring extra level of protection compared to XC-style open face helmets – especially around the temples. It’s certainly breezier and lighter than full facers. Features: 65% recycled material, adjustable visor, 20 vents, RSR 12 S Adjustable Retention System, Bug Stop protective net, ergo divider side buckles, Fastex system closure buckle. Also available in jazzy colourways. Yes, jazzy.

Rudy Project Override Goggle

  • Price: ยฃ119.00 (mirror lens)
  • From: Saddleback

And to help you delivery pizzas during blizzard conditions, here are the accompanying Override goggles from Rudy Project. Here’s a message to you (from) Rudy: “Override introduces an innovative dual-frame construction, fully disassemblable, featuring a lower frame with face-contact padding designed for comfort and moisture management, and an upper frame integrating the elastic strap and lens. This system enables easy maintenance, customization and fast component replacement, improving both durability and product versatility. Thanks to the Quick-Change System with four buttons, lens replacement is simple and immediate, even in demanding outdoor conditions.” Q: how many of you lot wear goggles now and then?

Tectonic Alibi Pedals

Anyone else here unhealthily obsessed with finding The Perfect Flat Pedal? Okay. Not just me then. Good. Check out these placky slabs of radness. Pretty standard in width at 108mm but signifcantly moar in terms of fore-aft length: 128mm. They remind me of the iconic/infamous Pedalling Innovations Catalyst except a heck of lot prettier. Which doesn’t matter, but does. What else? 2.5mm dual concavity, 14mm thick at centre, carbon fiber-reinforced nylon body, 10 Sharktooth traction pins per side with unique reminds-me-of-Ikea-wardrobes thru-mounting method (see last pic). No UK distributor at the mo but hopefully that will change.

Bag o’ bits

  • Price: ยฃN/A
  • From: Next week (hopefully)

Something of a teaser for next week’s Freash Goods Friday. Sorrynotsorry. Would anyone like to take guess as to what this bag of bits arrived with? Clue: best paintjob of the year.

The Arnolfini Portrait fridge magnet

Those of you who are signed-up to our newsletter will have read about my highlights from the recent Bespoked Handbuild Bike Show. Anyway, whilst I was down in that there London I had a couple of hours to kill before catching the off-peak cheap(er) train back up North. So I popped into The National Gallery to feed my eyes. It’s the law (in outr house anyway) to pick up a fridge magnet wherever possible. Surely Jan van Eyck would approve.

Stale Goods Friday – 2011 Ragley Full Suspension Prototype (Vitus Escarpe?)

Back in 2011 we wrote: “Mattโ€™s got his hands on this pre-production version of the 160mm front/130mm rear travel full suspension Ragley we brought you news of here. As a test mule itโ€™s basically got the correct angles and suspension geometry but the detail is likely to change for final models having more mud clearance and possibly a 12mm bolt-thru back end.” We think some of the learnings from this eventually appeared with Ragley’s stablemate brand Vitus Escarpe 29 (which was a great bike btw).

  1. I quite like the look of those pedals – haven’t tried composite ones before.

And that Ragley proto, other than possibly a bit short in the reach department, if you dropped the seat tube and top tube down towards the rear wheel, wouldn’t look much different to a modern bike
