Overview

Who are Pedal Cover?

Pedal Cover is a specialist insurance provider built exclusively around cyclists. Founded in 2014 and based in Ewenny, in the Vale of Glamorgan, it arranges cover designed around how cyclists actually ride, store and travel with their bikes — rather than the generic assumptions baked into ordinary household and travel policies.

It's best known for cycle-focused home insurance that treats your bikes properly, alongside standalone bicycle and cycle-travel cover. Claims are handled by cyclists — often former bike mechanics — with a repair-first approach and real-world bike and component valuations. Pedal Cover is part of The Plan Group, the same stable as fellow Fresh Goods Friday sponsor Yellow Jersey.

What they make

The range

Home insurance for cyclists

Buildings and/or contents cover with proper bike protection built in, not bolted on.

Bicycle insurance

Standalone cover for theft, accidental and malicious damage and liability — with racing included.

Cycle travel insurance

Overseas and trip cover designed around bikes, racing and training abroad.

Cyclist-first claims

Handled by riders and ex-mechanics, repair-first, with real-world valuations.

The story

Pedal Cover began with a simple frustration: standard home and travel policies treat expensive, much-loved bikes as an afterthought — capping payouts, quibbling over 'unattended' bikes and ignoring how riders actually use them. Founded in 2014 in the Vale of Glamorgan, the company set out to build insurance from the cyclist's point of view instead.

That means cover shaped around real riding life: bikes kept in the shed or garage, ridden hard, raced at weekends and flown abroad for trips. Claims are dealt with by people who ride — including former mechanics — who fix bikes first rather than reaching for a write-off, and who value bikes and components at what they're really worth.

In 2019 Pedal Cover joined The Plan Group, which also owns Yellow Jersey — making the two cycle-insurance names, both Fresh Goods Friday sponsors, part of the same group.

Built by cyclists, for cyclists.
