Which brand has put their money where their mouth is? Who has championed a cause for the benefit of the mountain bike culture? This is an award for brands that have gone beyond marketing to give something back to the mountain bike community.
Cotic Bikes
Cotic has long supported Ride Sheffield and the trails on its doorstep, but has recently branched out into a range of wider support. The Colour Collective and Trash Mob Academy have both benefited from help from Cotic, whether that’s in loaned bikes, design work, or promotional support. In doing so, Cotic has helped to bring new riders into the sport, as well as shown them the opportunities that exist within the industry. For a relatively small brand to be making such a contribution is impressive.
komoot
If you look at a trip or project aimed at introducing new or underrepresented riders to mountain biking, there’s every chance you’ll see komoot providing support or sponsorship. They’re one of Trash Free Trails’ strategic partners, and they support a broad range of athletes across a variety of disciplines. With a strong emphasis on ‘getting out there’, the brand is helping build a mountain bike community that appreciates its surroundings and seeks to share the experience with a broader audience.
Trek UK
With demand outstripping supply, Trek UK has shifted much of its marketing focus to supporting projects that do good rather than sell specific bikes. They provided £500,000 in match funding to World Bicycle Relief in December 2021, and are a strategic partner of Trash Free Trails. They also support Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland (DMBinS) and a variety of campaigning and policy projects aimed at improving bike infrastructure and participation in cycling.
Which brand do you think is going beyond the profit margin and giving something back to our riding community? Obviously they hope you’ll vote with your wallets when it comes to a future purchase, but for now, vote with your fingers and choose your Singletrack Reader Award winner.
We’re delighted to be working with Kendal Mountain Festival to bring you the big reveal of the winners of the Singletrack Reader Awards at KMF’s famous Bike Night. If you can’t get along for the evening, it’ll be available on the Kendal Mountain Player, so no one misses out!
