Vote Now: Best Author – Singletrack Reader Awards

Which author, published in our magazine or on Singletrackworld.com, gave you pause for thought, a moment of laughter, or just a good dose of escapism? This award will be awarded to the writer who made the biggest impression this year.

Chris Hinds

Chris Hindsโ€™ diary of the Great British Divide brought us an honest insight into riding a very long way. Riding most of the length of Britain was impressive enough, but to string sentences together while doing so was all the more so. His words plotted the decline of his body and bike along with the rise and fall of his optimism. Humour, self depreciation, honesty, and a good dose of grotesque allowed us to experience the kind of adventure that most of us will never undertake.

Dieter Carroll

โ€˜The Prince of Bodgeโ€™ as one reader called him, Dieter Carrollโ€™s monthly reports from a community bike shop bring us humour, politics, some feel good stories, and plenty of useful tips. His world of recycled bikes, make do and mend, and tricky repairs is a far cry from the shiny new things found elsewhere on the pages of Singletrack World. His articles let us see beyond the marketing into the lifecycle of bikes out there in the real world. In doing so, he reminds us that we donโ€™t always need the latest and greatest gear to have fun on bikes, and he may even have saved you a few quid. Is that worth your vote?

Nils Amelinckx

โ€˜Excess Baggageโ€™ is Nils Amelinckxโ€™ tale of going on a bikepacking trip into the mountains of Scotland, to see whether itโ€™s possible to do with a stoma. As he takes us on the overnight ride, with all the extra obstacles and considerations that the effects of his bowel cancer treatment puts in the way, he tells us how efforts like this are so important to maintaining his quality of life. He knows he will never recover, so how he spends his days has even more significance than ever. If Nilsโ€™ story inspired you to add quality to your time on this earth, maybe heโ€™ll get your vote?

More than bikes, I like what bikes do. I think that they link people and places; that cycling creates a connection between us and our environment; bikes create communities; deliver freedom; bring joy; and improve fitness. They're environmentally friendly and create friendly environments.
