Almost a decade and a half ago, Allen Millyard built a one-off custom downhill bike that was lightyears ahead of what was on sale, and now new social media posts suggest it could be making a return.
Allen Millyard is an engineer with a passion for 2 wheels. When he isn’t fitting a Dodge Viper engine to a motorbike, he can be found welding up spaceframe downhill bikes or developing his own suspension systems.
Those of us who can cast our minds back 14 years might be able to remember the Millyard Racing downhill bike. An impressive homemade alloy frame with the internal drivetrain, and a design that was described as being years ahead of its time. That bike saw a few innovations over the years including a single-sided chainstay and a rear end that measured just 70mm wide!
Well, that bike could be making a comeback and it’s getting a 2020 suspension upgrade too!
Allen and his son Stephen have started to post images of the old, single-sided race bike along with images of a 2020 Millyard Racing rear shock which apparently took just a few days to make.

Look whats come out to play 👀 Just need to get some pedals and its ready to ride!! @allenmillyard has done a great job upgrading the forks are rear shock up to 2020 HyperRide spec 😍
While we’re all very hopeful that an updated bike with 29in wheels and modern geometry might be making an appearance sometime this year, the Millyard family hasn’t confirmed anything, but with Stephen planning to race again this year, we’re finally going to see what this 14-year-old hyperbike is like compared to the current generation of DH bikes.
Though the bike is an original, the rear shock is something new for 2020. Again we don’t have the details, but the shock is called the “HyperRide” and we know that it has already been tested on other frames including a Transition Sentinel.
It’s not just the rear suspension that’s getting a 2020 Millyard makeover though, Allen has recently posted a video of a custom fork damper.
If you follow either then you’ll already have seen the comments and questions regarding new bikes and innovations, we just can’t wait to see what this talented team have up their sleeves.
