On Saturday night in Hebden Bridge, a packed-out audience of mountain biking enthusiasts came together to drink beer, mingle, and enjoy the highly anticipated worldwide debut of ‘Mountain Biking – The Untold British Story’. Produced by Blue Hippo Media in conjunction with Singletrack Magazine, the British MTB movie was made into reality following a successful crowdfunding campaign. If you’ve been following the film’s progress, you would have seen our previous story about the crowdfunding campaign, as well as the news about Gary Fisher coming on board and Purity Brewing backing the project too. We also brought you an interview with the film’s producer, and you may have watched some of the movie trailers as well. Needless to say, there was a lot of excitement building on Saturday night!
While there are many well-worn tales about the early history of mountain biking in the big ol’ land of the USA, few are aware of just how deep the roots extend in our own backyard. The crowdfunding campaign began as a way to bring many of these stories to life, documenting the rich 40-year history of mountain biking in the UK. Filming for began in August of 2015, and it includes classic footage of well-known British riders such as Martyn Ashton, Tracy Moseley, Rob Warner, Steve Peat and Rachel Atherton. The movie made its worldwide debut on Saturday night, and we were there along with over 200 other mountain biking nuts to see the finished product. And drink lots of beer courtesy of Purity Brewing of course!
Based upon the reaction from the crowd (and our Twitter feed) on the night, the film will be very well received. Amongst the audience on Saturday night were several stars of the movie, including Tracy Mosely, Jason Miles and the original crew from Muddy Fox. Long distance hardman and recent Tour Divide record breaker Mike Hall was also there on the night.
Great to be amongst the first people to see #mtbmovie tonight at Hebden Bridge.

Following the film screening, our very own Chipps Chippendale sat down with the directors of the movie to hear about want went on behind the scenes in making the film and some of the challenges they faced in putting together such a comprehensive documentary. Chipps was beamed out into the world via Facebook Live, though thanks to the glories of the internet, you can watch the video below.

Surely this deserves another bike night at the Hebden Bridge Picture House?… Please..!!?!
you’d have thought so!
will there be a cost to download the movie from vimeo?
jekkyl. Assuming you weren’t involved in the crowdfunding earlier this year, there will be a cost. We’re still working on all the download/streaming details. All will be revealed on 6 August. Ta
Where is the Birmingham Premiere?
There should be a cost, I am happy to pay it ! I’d rather own it than rent it fyi.
No Scottish venues for showing the movie then?
Whoops – just noticed Guildtown on the list.
Guildtown… what’s the motivation behind that as a venue? What about other venues?
Nowhere is Sussex?
The motivation is that people invested in the kick-start in return for the rights to host a screening
Precisely Harry_the_Spider. If you can’t get to a screening, head to your mate’s house (with the big telly), download a copy from August 6 and support independent, British film-making 🙂
An Edinburgh screening would be good. Who do I need to speak to to make it happen?
