New Maxxis Tyres for 2016

by 3

Maxxis are launching three new tyres at the Taipei Bike Show this week, two plus tyres and one 29er.

The Ikon+ has a light tread for XC 3C Maxx Speed compound (different to the 3C you might be familiar with for mega-gnarr downhill tyres; details here), but the plus sizing gives you increased volume and a much bigger contact patch. Ther are three versions: 120 TPI folding duel compound (EXO/TR), 120 TPI folding 3C Maxx Speed (EXO/TR), and 120 TPI folding duel compound. All measure 27.5×2.8. Exo is sidewall protection, TR is tubeless ready.

The Rekon+ has a much more aggressive tread and the same size casing: 27.5×2.8. There are two versions: 60 TPI folding duel compound (EXO/TR) and the 120 TPI folding 3C Maxx Terra (EXO/TR).

They only sent us a tiny image of the Forekaster, but trust us it does have a larger diameter than the two pictured above. It’s a 29×2.35 tyre, available only as 120 TPI folding dual compound (EXO/TR).

David started mountain biking in the 90’s, by which he means “Ineptly jumping a Saracen Kili Racer off anything available in a nearby industrial estate”. After growing up and living in some extremely flat places, David moved to Yorkshire specifically for the mountain biking. This felt like a horrible mistake at first, because the hills are so steep, but you get used to them pretty quickly. Previously, David trifled with road and BMX, but mountain bikes always won. He’s most at peace battering down a rough trail, quietly fixing everything that does to a bike, or trying to figure out if that one click of compression damping has made things marginally better or worse. The inept jumping continues to this day.
