CUBE Announce Downhill Team for 2016

by 0

While they’ve had the Cube Action Team doing enduro (etc.) since 2011, Cube have, their words, “been absent from the downhill scene for a long time”. To fix this, they’ve just announced the Cube Global Squad, made up of Scottish rider Greg Wiliamson, and New Zealander Matt Walker.

They’ll be riding the Cube Two15, of which Greg instagrammed a picture, describing himself as “stoked”. Matt is formerly a privateer and stated “After doing the hard time as a privateer I am so pumped to be on board with the CUBE Global Squad and to have the support needed to race consistently and competitively”.

“Global Squad” sounds impressively dramatic, as if Greg and Matt will be teleported to start lines from a spaceship in high orbit. Which would be super.

David started mountain biking in the 90’s, by which he means “Ineptly jumping a Saracen Kili Racer off anything available in a nearby industrial estate”. After growing up and living in some extremely flat places, David moved to Yorkshire specifically for the mountain biking. This felt like a horrible mistake at first, because the hills are so steep, but you get used to them pretty quickly. Previously, David trifled with road and BMX, but mountain bikes always won. He’s most at peace battering down a rough trail, quietly fixing everything that does to a bike, or trying to figure out if that one click of compression damping has made things marginally better or worse. The inept jumping continues to this day.
