NEC Cycle Show 2015 – Surly

by 4

Surly are at the NEC, showing off their wares and ploughing their own distinctive furrow:

The Surly Troll is a resolutely 26″ machine, designed for – well, whatever you like, really.

DSC_1627Racks, mudguards, discbrakes, all at the same time? No problem.

DSC_0006This one has a Rollhof rear hub…

DSC_0005With some very, very cool underbar shifters.

DSC_0010The Wednesday is another fatbike from Surly. It’s cheaper than the Ice Cream Trucker (it’s £1,500, so £1,000 cheaper), it’s lighter thanks to lighter wheels – 4″ tyres as opposed to 5″ and redesigned rims means a weight saving of 2lbs. Nice.

DSC_0002Karate Monkey has a cool new (geddit?) mint colour scheme…

DSC_1629And here’s a fully laden Straggler Apex – just because.

Barney Marsh takes the word ‘career’ literally, veering wildly across the road of his life, as thoroughly in control as a goldfish on the dashboard of a motorhome. He’s been, with varying degrees of success, a scientist, teacher, shop assistant, binman and, for one memorable day, a hospital laundry worker. These days, he’s a dad, husband, guitarist, and writer, also with varying degrees of success. He sometimes takes photographs. Some of them are acceptable. Occasionally he rides bikes to cast the rest of his life into sharp relief. Or just to ride through puddles. Sometimes he writes about them. Bikes, not puddles. He is a writer of rongs, a stealer of souls and a polisher of turds. He isn’t nearly as clever or as funny as he thinks he is.
