The baked trails and dust of yesterday’s trails was too good to last. This is Scotland after all. Riders woke up to a slightly less wild-weather morning than the forecasters had predicted, but the rain and cold still had its effect on the day. With the weather being its indecisive self, the race organisers decided to close stages 6 and 7 and only race stages 5 and 8, in aid of dodging the worst of what was predicted for the afternoon.
So under looming skies, riders embarked on what would be a day of mud-clogged bikes, minimal grip, physical stages and plenty of pedalling. In the end, Justin Leov and Tracy Moseley took the wins, making it a Trek clean sweep.
