Red Bull Hill Chasers Goes Scottish

by 1

Tennents may be Scotland’s favourite beverage but Red Bull is taking over Edinburgh city centre.

The 'who can hold their bike the longest' competition.

The only uphill multi-discipline bike competition will have a new home this year as it moves to Scotland. After two years in Bristol in England, Hill Chasers is moving to Edinburgh, Scotland.
Working with Edinburgh’s City Council, Red Bull has secured the use of the historic cobbles of Grassmarket and Victoria Street in the heart of the city as the race track for this battle between bike disciplines. The uphill sprint will be a challenging 170m race to the finish, with pinch points and obstacles to slow down those caught snoozing on the start line.

All the action for Red Bull Hill Chasers will take place this Saturday, March 30.

As ever, the unique urban event will give hundreds of bike enthusiasts – from BMX, mountain bike, road cycling and fixed-gear disciplines – a chance to race against elite bike athletes.

Battling head-to-head, amateur racers will be invited to take part in a timed hill sprint to prove that their discipline is the fastest and to qualify for the main event.

Confirmed riders include BMX racer Joris Daudet, Michel Prokop, Martyn Ashton, Danny Macaskill and road riders such as Ben Simmons (last years winner) and Madison Genesis rider Jack Pullar.
Michal Prokop, the three times World Champion 4X rider and Red Bull Athlete, said; “I’m really looking forward to visiting Edinburgh for the first time for this years Red Bull Hill Chasers! The race atmosphere is going to be amazing.”

The fastest 30 riders from qualifiers will be selected for the main event where they will go up against 10 elite cycling legends in a bid to be crowned Red Bull Hill Chasers 2013 ‘King of the Hill’. These main races could see mountain bikers and road bikes up against fixed gear riders or BMX riders. It will all depend on the draw on the day.

The Top 3 prizes for the men will be Charge Plug bikes and custom Oakley Radars plus the fastest lady doesn’t miss out either, she will get a Charge bike too! All qualifiers will get a free goodie bag with delights from Rouler Magazine, Knog, Giro, Park, Charge and Elite.

The qualifying rounds for Hill Chasers will be held from 6am on March 30, with the main event setting off at 7pm. So get on up to Edinburgh and see the pros battle against the top amateurs to be crowned King of the Hill 2013.
