Sea Otter 2012: More Random Sightings

by 5

We showed you the Gamut chain device from icebike but now it’s finished. It still features the clever O-ring transport device, just that the bash guard is now much more neatly finished. This is literally the first production one, so look to see them slowly starting to appear by the summer through Madison.

The neat new Gamut bearing less (i.e. UK-proof) chain device.

Volagi seems over its recent disagreement with Specialized and was showing its new steel disc ‘cross bike. Semi retro (mountain bike) looks with reliable stoppers might make this a bit of a sleeper hit with mountain bikers.

Nice looker. Retrotec did it first though...

All Hail... There's no one more random.

The women's version of the Privateer shoe, the Manta. Purple sole! Girls get the best stuff...

CycleOps was showing its ‘human blender’ adaptation that lets you earn your cocktails…

Mine's a frosty one please!

RockyMounts has completely revamped its line (and about time too) with sleeker trays and this great 15mm AND 20mm thru-axle fork mount. We’re trying to persuade them to distribute in the UK again so we can bring you some reviews…

New, chunky and lockable QR that won't rust in UK winters. Apparently.

Felt's new 29in full susser. We've seen few new 26in designs (though they'll follow and they're worth it...)

Under this random hat is David Turner, riding an unconventional new prototype...

Yep, David Turner was spotted riding around on a new one-off Turner Cyclosys cyclocross bike… (with road tyres even!). He’s still unsure if he’ll ever make them for you and I, but it show’s he’s keen to experiment…

Don't hold your breath. Chipps is still on the waiting list for Turner MTB tandem Number 2. He's been waiting 12 years...

The Sea Otter isn't really by the coast. This is a large, muddy pond, but it looks good in the sun, when it shines.

It's a tough call... What would you go for?

It was heartening to see a steel 26in hardtail for a change. Only this was a Jamis 27.5in bike!

We did see a few genuine steel frames of the 26in (and 29in) variety. These have included a Dialled Bikes Prince Albert, a Cotic Soul and a Singular Swift…

That's either a really small guy, or a really big bucket of water

Any excuse to bring a race car to a bike event...

See that perforated heel cup on this Bontrager road shoe? It was designed by someone who knows what it's like to have feet that are too hot. We don't understand the concept...

Spotted casually leaning up against the Crank Bros booth was this Mantis Valkyrie hardtail from a very long time ago…

Don't laugh, youngsters. We all wanted one, back in the day. Didn't we? No? Oh...

No really, it made sense at the time...
Rollercams. They were great.
