The Kona Mash-Uppers write…
The 1st Kona Mash-Up event of the season is only six weeks away with entries coming in thick and fast. So far the entries are suggesting a fairly even spread between the two categories on offer which will make for interesting racing on the trails where everybody rides against everybody.
The Kona Mash-Up 2009– the concept:
The Kona Mash-Up will be using the Whites Level and the July Trail (part of the Skyline trail) at the Glyncorrwg Mountain Bike Centre near Part Talbot, Wales. The ‘Technical’ category will do their racing on the Whites Level trail while the ‘Enduro’ category will ride the Whites Level trail as well as the July trail.
We have updated the website with the exact timing locations to give the riders a chance to find out prior to the event where a smooth line counts or where easy rolling is in order. Please have a look at the ‘Courses’ page on the Mash-Up website http://www.konaworld.uk.com/mash-up/courses.php for downloadable maps as well as profiles for the two courses. Here you can also find details on what the two categories have to ride to complete their course.
Improved timing for 2009:
After problems with the rather complicated timing setup in 2008 we have spent the winter looking into the short comings of the timing in 2008, and have come up with techniques and equipment that will offer 1st class timing to the riders. The Black Run on the Whites Level trail will have fibre optic supported ‘live timing’ with instant results being available at the ‘on course’ event village, and hopefully via mobile internet link at the Drop Off café at the same time. The remaining sections will have a combination of chip and manual timing.
How to enter:
The entry is restricted in numbers but there are still lots of places available. Riders can either enter by downloading an entry form from our entry page http://www.konaworld.uk.com/mash-up/entry.php or by clicking through to the new online entry on the same page. Please note that we will only have day entry available if we haven’t reached capacity by the time the event opens and that there is a £5 day entry surcharge.
What else besides the riding / timetable:
The event will be held in the beautiful setting of the Glyncorrwg Mountain Bike Centre. The centre has excellent facilities and some of the best riding in the UK and is the home to one of the best mountain bike cafes in the country – the Drop Off Café. Beside being open for business for races and spectators they are also organising the finishing party which will take place on Saturday night. You can expect some great food and drink offerings plus some spectacular music acts. Watch this space!
The event weekends will kick off on Saturday (13th June / 5th December 2009) morning and will run throughout the day. There will be a broad range of companies showing off their products and services, and will have test products available for the day.
