The Slick N Knobbly Cycling Festival, 11th–12th July

snklogo-08Starting Saturday you have the choice of taking part in a 2hr or 4hr enduro in the morning, followed by a short but sharp hill climb in the afternoon and then finally you can blast around a highly competitive Dirt Crit.

Then Sunday you can either move to the black stuff and take part in the renowned Devil Ride Sportive, with a choice of distances and spin through the highs and lows of the Welsh Valleys, or take the opportunity to discover some of the Brecon Beacons miles of excellent off road trails, safe in the knowledge that the rest of the family can partake in gentle guided rides and skills sessions on the private estate. Mums, Dads and kids can also opt for a leisurely ride through the estate, or spend time perusing the trade stands on site, what you do is up to you.

Where is it based?

Glanusk Estate, South Wales. It is situated in the countryside of the Usk Valley, Crickhowell, nestled in the Brecon Beacons National Park and is one of the largest privately owned estates in Wales. The estate has 400 acres of parkland and 800 acres of private forestry, offering you the chance to try out some brand new never used before trails only available on the weekend of the event.

Do we have to pay an entrance fee?

No, entry to the site is free, as is camping and all activities except the competitive events listed below. The campsite can accommodate thousands, providing level ground as well as beautiful surroundings and of course we’ll supply all the facilities you’d expect from a quality event, including top notch catering from festival specialists Quaver Catering.

Events:

Saturday Morning:
2hr or 4hr Enduro – Cost – £20.00

Saturday Afternoon:
Road Hill Climb – Cost – £7.00
A challenging 6.5 mile time trial.

Saturday Evening:
Dirt Crit – Cost £7.00
2km circuit. First off will be the youngsters, with all under 18’s encouraged to get stuck in and race hard in front of the arena crowd. As the sun starts to set and the Summer BBQ gets into full swing, it’s the turn of the adults.

Sunday Morning:
The Devil Ride Sportive – £25
The Devil Ride has rapidly established itself as a major event in the sportive calendar, selling out two months in advance in 2007! It started as a 100-mile ride that takes in the infamous Devil’s Staircase and is a fully supported road sportive run by experienced organisers Epic Cycles. The Devil Ride is being run in conjunction with the ‘Slick ‘n Knobbly Cycling Festival’, with the start and finish in the main arena and all riders encouraged to take part in all of the activities on offer at the Festival. Sportive entries only will be handled by Epic Cycles with on-line entry going live on 12th January and limited to 1000 riders.
