take an "extreme/danger" panda
lots of examples here (and explaination of the name) http://www.flickr.com/groups/pandaportraits/
rules are
1)both hands must be off the bars
2)look into camera
3)bike must be in motion, no cheating by leaning the bike out of shot
4)you must take the picture yourself
lets see your efforts
OK. I'll try one tomorrow with my rubbish camera.... just incase.
posh cameras or phone pics welcome (even new iphone ones) ๐
Might have a go at this tomorrow, I feel a crash coming on ๐
No problem, I'll try in the morning.
yup - another attemptee here in the morning! which reminds me im up at 6 so i best **** off to bed!
I likey just need to borrow me a camera that falls into the category of not the end of the world if i break it.
can have a go at that!
I think I get the meaning of the word Panda but can someone explain where it comes from and why it is used for self taken pics on bikes? Cheers : )
Panda - no hander
only my guess
here is dangerous panda ,, i did take it about three years ago

i may have got the wrong idea
Then you can start a new thread with all the photos of your injuries. Nutters.
I usually struggle at these, but I did manage to catch this rather relaxed danger-panda a month or so back - it's a bit more casual than you two up there tho' ^

I'm going out on a bike in a minute, so I'll give it proper go.
simon, check the link above, but the short version is
Why are these called "pandas?" Well, ya see, there's this rad chick who goes by the name faster panda kill kill. She takes rad self-portraits while riding her bike. They are so rad, in fact, that a group was formed to record similar self-portraits cuz, really, just about anyone who has a camera and rides bikes also takes these self-portraits.

the usual panda being a self pic taken on a bike, the danger panda has evolved due to the nature of riding no hands whilst not looking where you are going
extra kudos for off road versions!
OCB has the best beard ever
OCB looks very much like one of my Uni lecturers, the beard is spectacular.
I take it a backward facing helmet cam mounted on the bars isn't within the spirit of the competition. ๐
must. try. harder.

Graham H, that is a panda, but not a danger panda, can't see if your hands are on the bars or not
OCB's beard needs a photo thread all of it's own, awesome work there chap
What's the best way to get blood of a camera lens?

Brillo pad ๐
Very poor John
Ha ha, thanks for the beard compliment.
๐
Well, I spent most of this afternoons ride trying to pull this off, and the best I managed was this rather poor showing. It's hard to work out on account of the gloom, but, scouts honour, I am actually riding the bike here.

It's ok until you try the looking up bit, then it all goes to pot.
Note that the beard has gone a bit swooshy here, it does that on the bike when it's this length - but I'll grow on past it (as long as I don't have any bonfire related 'incidents' when I'm clearing the garden, which is what accounted for months worth of growth about this time last year).
It looks a bit less odd in [url=
]this shot (also from this afternoon).
EDIT: revised photo uploaded now, with the levels boosted way up past sensible.

+1
love the fear in your eyes, excellent effort though!
notice your pic comes via flickr, what username are you on there?
You want fear - try this failed attempt where I had to wrestle control back to avoid disaster.

I dunno why that bike doesn't hold a decent line, it's about 10 foot long. It's a 1992 Kona with 29er P2's on it (and a 26 inch wheel), so it's not exactly got steep, nervous angles on it, quite the opposite in fact.
On Flickr I am a longer version of whom I am here ... (linky), but I 'spect you have found me in the Panda pool by now (err, tho' that sounds a bit sordid).
I am sooooo bad at this. There's going to be an accident. ๐
Rocketdog i thought you abhorred anything Mleh? yet you are wearing a mlehworld jersey??
I have no problem with mlehworld Rob, met some great people via the forum
BD, practice makes perfect, chicks dig scars etc ๐
OCB, did you mug a tramp for that beard? It's magnificent.
Cheers RD - I did click before but didn't scroll down far enough to see that explanation.
Well I tried, over and over again, and failed miserably - almost ending up in the stream at one point. The fact that my camera shutter button kept jamming didn't help either, neither did the lack of beard I reckon ๐ .
Great thread though. Keep 'em coming. I'll get there . . .
^hahah, awesome!
