Just discussing fave films of ‘alltime’…

Apart from the obvious Blade runner etc…

how about the first Robocop (I’ve just walked around the office like Murphy!) and the first Blade?

Sheer stylised class is Blade isn’t it???

Southern Comfort, Platoon, Near Dark. Don’t know if they’d be considered “Classic”?
Then again, I wouldn’t consider Blade classic – a fun film, but not an alltime fave. Robocop was great at the time, but looks badly dated and a bit silly now IMO.

    Define ‘classic’… for me:

    The Rock
    Twin Town
    Back to the Future
Blade (much as I hate to agree with Hora)
    Starship Troopers

    EDIT – a few more:
Bill & Ted – both of them
    Indiana Jones Raiders
    Lost Boys

    But Robocop? That’s just rubbish!

Debz for that reason it also makes (Robocop) the film endearing IMO.

The first Blade was rubbish. The second one was good.

    Best films from the 80’s?

    Brazil
    Aliens
    Full Metal Jacket.

    that sort of thing.

Of course 🙂 I found it to be quite aspirational, but I was young, got it on DVD and watch now and again

Obviously Commando is the serene top of the pile. Such utter class, dated and ham yet watchable for eternity.

    +1 for cinema paradiso
also the usual suspects – made at a stunning cost of buggerall and still the best ending ever

if you’r talking comedy it has to be the producers [ origonal not shite copy ] no-one comes unravelled like gene wilder .

so, so many beloved films (including most of those above)

but I’m going to make a special shout for the 80s and 90s canon of the director Rob Reiner. I don’t think he gets the credit he deserves for this fantastic unbroken run of ace films (spanning multiple genres)

    This is Spinal Tap
    The Sure Thing
    The Princess Bride
    When Harry Met Sally
    Stand By Me
    Misery
    A Few Good Men
Mind you, I don’t think he has made anything worth watching since a few good men

some more favorites from the 80s and 90s

    Se7en
    Leon
    Reservoir Dogs
    Pulp Fiction
    Boogie Nights
    Magnolia

    The Thing
    The King Of Comedy
Raging Bull (1980 I think so sneaks in there)

    The Goonies
    Groundhog Day
    Ghostbusters
    ET
    Schindlers List

    Blue Velvet
    Wild At Heart

My favorite really trashy but amazing nonethless film of the 90s is Con Air

Not mentioned yet – The Shining

I reckon my favourite of alltime has now become a 2006 film – The Departed.

Breakfast club was always a favourite. Ferris bueller pretty in pink, and all time favourite The Princess Bride

    Cinema Paradiso

    girl’s film!

For proper movies, the classic 80’s 90’s list has to include:

    Top Gun
    Navy Seals
    Under Siege
    Terminator
    Predator
    First Blood
    Aliens
    Platoon
    Conan the Barbarian

Basically, all the movies that blokes still recognise quotes from – who the hell has ever quoted dialogue from Cinema Paradiso or Pretty in Pink over beer and peanuts?

I am ashamed to say I have never watched Cinema Paradisio

I taped it off the TV in the 1990s – that tape stayed with me until I got rid of all my VHS about 5 years ago

I then got a copy on DVD free with one of the Papers

Despite this I have never got round to putting it on and watching it. I’m sure its excellent – but I’m just never in the mood for it when I’m choosing something to watch

    My word.

The Killer, utterly dated yet amazing. Utterly amazing. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097202/

    Hardboiled Cop.

Tonight I am going to watch Blade and the Killer 😀
