The A4232
It’s a short dual carriageway that runs from Cardiff Bay to the M4.
In the 15 years I’ve been driving I’ve been stopped by the police exactly twice, both for speeding “it’s a fair cop officer” both times on that road. Once going north, once going south.
In 15 years I’ve broken down and been unable to continue exactly once – on that road.
But the one that sticks in my mind – early one morning I was escorting a young lady home I’d met the night before when she said she could smell burning, “that’s okay, it always does that” but it was worse than that, little drips of burning plastic were landing on her legs and as she told me so a lick of flame came out of the top of the dashboard – I managed to pull over and get us out just in time to see my beloved Golf VR6 burn to the ground – guess where I was?
If you ever drive north up the A4232 from Cardiff and exit on the junction for Culverhouse Cross you may still see a Golf shaped burn mark on the exit ramp, it belongs to me – I’ve owned that patch of road for more than 10 years and I do mean own – after the fire the council sent me a bill for £1500 to repair the road (as I had 3rd party only insurance) which I paid in the end – but they never repaired it.
