  • Yeti SB6c owners, a grease gun question please

Just bought a second hand one. Reading the Yeti manual online points out grease ports and 40 hour service intervals. So, what gun, grease and any tips, please. TIA

I think a variety of them work, but not 100%. In any case Yeti do their own one – https://www.yetifanstore.com/products/grease-gun-only

I’ve got one and it works a treat!

Thanks pinetree ! I’ll be ordering one of those. Any tips on actual usage ? Just purge the old stuff ?

It’s pretty straightforward, really. Just make sure the grease ports are clean, then pump through til you see the old stuff come through the seals. Give it a few more pumps then wipe it down.

You tend to find the most amount of wear on the stanchions isn’t actually caused by a lack of grease in the link. It tends to be more down to seized bearings or uneven torque on the link, so before you ride the bike just make sure the bearings are all in good shape, and that the link is correctly torqued up. There’s a tech manual on Yeti’s site which explains it all.

    Have fun!

Just pump grease in until it starts oozing past the shaft seals.

Is there such a thing as a basic, affordable grease gun which takes 400ml refills but has a head the right size to fit in grease ports?

I use the good old Dualco gun with Moly grease – I seem to remember there was an small typo on those Fox instructions and the grease listed wasn’t actually the correct (moly) grease – unsure if corrected.

However, be aware that the system inside the switch infinity for getting the grease from the nipple to the internal surfaces ain’t the best – a single hole in the bushing which, IMO, doesn’t deliver the grease evenly around the internals.

I prefer now to wip the unit off the bike and pop the sliders out and grease them (and bushings) disassembled. Probably overkill, but gives me piece of mind with an expensive part.

Cheers Fellas for the replies. Bike has never been ridden and I bought it from my excellent LBS here in HK where it was a trade in. Very much appreciated. Thnx

Is there anything else I should be aware of ? Bit concerned where some of the internal hoses/cables come out, but a bit of helitape should do the job ?

I just use one of these – https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00JWM3X1A/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 – filled from a 400ml tube of Mobil grease

I agree submarined! Maybe it’s made out of the same carbon as the frames eh?
I still have my Pace greasegun too – still has the Pace Honey in it too. 🙂
    Pace didn’t charge £40, that’s feshure.

There ya go – same thing on Amazon: http://amzn.eu/5h8UeRH (not turquoise)
    and cheaper on Tredz: https://www.tredz.co.uk/birzman-bike-lubricants
