    Project ASR5 is now complete.

    I bought a 2011 ASR5 alloy ex-demo bike from Bromley Cycles last weekend. I stripped it down and have sold most of the bits I didn’t want to keep (bars, stem, wheels, tyres, brakes etc etc), and after a rather long Saturday night of hunting about the net and ordering stuff, all the bits & bobs have now arrived (most stuff came from bike-discount.de and arrived within just a few days… the wheels were custom built by merlin and took just 48hrs to arrive!!), so I spent the day building it up.

    For those interested, the spec now reads as follows (2011 kit unless marked with a ‘***’ in which case this is brand new this week).

    * Yeti ASR5 Alloy – white – size large
    * Fox F120 RLC 120mm FIT (15mm axle)
    * Fox RP23 Boost Valve shock
    * Truativ AKA 60mm stem (also have a 80mm version, so can swap between depending on terrain) ***
    * Raceface Turbine riser bar ***
    * RS Reverb 125mm 30.9 2012 post with lh-control (mounted upside down on the right) ***
    * WTB Silverado anniversary saddle
    * Salsa allen key seat-clamp (no need for a qr with the reverb) ***
    * Stans Arch EX (white) rims on Hope Pro II Evo (blue) hubs with black DT Comp spokes ***
    * Stans universal valves with sealant and narrow tape ***
    * Schwalbe Ro-Ro 2.25″ Evo Pacestar (white band) front tyre ***
    * Schwalbe Ra-Ra 2.25″ Evo Pacestar (white band) rear tyre ***
    * Formula RX disc brakes ***
    * Alligator Windcutter white rotors (180mm front, 160mm rear) ***
    * Ashima blue alloy rotor bolts ***
    * Shimano XTR Shadow 9-speed rear mech (carbon plates)
    * Shimano XT M770 chainset
    * KCNC blue anodised alloy chainring bolts ***
    * Shimano XT front mech
    * Shimano SLX STI levers
    * Shimano 11-32t cassette
    * Sram PG970 chain
    * Shimano 540 SPD pedals

    haven’t ridden it yet (at all!), so am looking forward to seeing how different it is to the Turner Flux I have just sold.

    i’m not going in to how much it cost to buy and build, as I might want to sell it soon (always another project on the horizon… i do fancy an Ibis Mojo!)

    Looking at it now, the only changes I think I might make are to fit some wider bars (720mm) and some XT trail pedals. All easily done if needs be.

    Anyways… photos below… comments welcome.

    lol… i spend most of my time riding around the new forest, so i will be using a 80mm stem with 685mm raceface turbine bars.

    if i head up to trail centres, i will swap the cockpit over for a 60mm stem and wider bars… all of 5 mins work to change the feel of the bike.

    that’s a great looking bike IMO, and no doubt rides even better. can’t believe you’re already talking about selling it!

    Really nice in white, I used to have one of those in black…..

    It is a great bike, but by chance most of the parts fit my new frame…

    Stick with the Yeti for a while, you will not regret it.
