I have an XT chainset with a worn 22t granny ring. Can I put an LX chainring on? The cross-section of the rings looks different in that the XT ring has a shoulder below the teeth whereas the LX ring doesn’t. Are XT rings thicker?

    GS,

I have just put an LX middle ring on my XT HTII chainset and it seems to be fine. Not sure if this helps.

Which XT chainset do you have? 770/760 etc (and also which LX)

i think depending on age of xt crankset,
i bought some slx chainrings to put on a old xt crank and they didnt fit,
actually it was only the middle that didn’t fit,

so on that rational, i say yes,
but i might be wrong 😀 haha

Thanks for your advice so far. Seems like a definite maybe. 😕

I think it’s a XT HTII crankset (around 5 years old fitted to my Orange Five). The LX granny ring I’ve got, I assume, is the latest version.

A bit of filing would have made it fit…

Most of the rings are interchangable, the inner tabs might just need adjusting with a file is all (have done this for years with deore chainrings and not died yet!)

Have just got some SLX rings to try on a M770 chainset, would have fitted them but I ordered the wrong fricken cassette (will do it next week).
