I had a minor OTB last night and bashed a brake lever (XT) – well, the reservoir, not the actual lever. The lever seems to have lost its desire to return and feels more spongy. What could I have damaged and are there are any easy fixes I can try? I can’t see any damage to the actual lever.

might be more ‘physical’ in that you’ve bent/misaligned the bit where the lever axle (pin) keeps the lever in place – sorry don’t know technical name – compare the alignment/gap to the other side? maybe prise (eek) the two apart and see if that loosens the lever…
