I need to change my front Bonty xr3 and have been given the money to get one for xmas. I mainly ride at Swinley with the occasional visit to Afan. Any suggestions which one to buy? thanks.

    What size? 26er, Trails Alive/ 650B, or 29er?

    Another one?

Do you want to change it or are you unhappy with its performance ?

Trek fuel 8 26″. Nobby Nic on the rear. I lost confidence in the xr3 once the wet arrived. I’ve tried an old conti on the front but can’t find any confidence. I have tried softening the front end for grip but can’t find it. Thanks.

Any thoughts on this – Maxxis Minion DHF Front MTB Tyre – Dual Ply?

Overkill, very heavy and slow! However the Specialized Butcher Control 2.3 is a great alternative, a really good front tyre for ‘aggressive’ riding. Purgatory 2.3 is quicker rolling and not as grippy but still grippier than the XR3. XR4 is good too. Or the Rubber Queen (must be black chili) is great if you can afford it!

Also look at On ones Chunky Monkey, absolutely ace front tyre. Made by maxxis and not a bank breaker. Love it TBH
