Looking at running up a light set of 355’s, any thoughts on these hubs. Anybody had problems with them, have read a few horror stories on the earlier models.

I have some WTB Laser disc lite on a Giant Reign.

The wheels are about 4 years old and have had some seriously hard use in Southern Spain.

No broken spokes and very little spoke tweaking to do.

The hubs have run perfectly and are far easier to service than Hopes.

The only niggle is that the bearings come with play in them.
Thinking they were worn i bought some enduro ones,more expensive due to the size,and found that the new bearings also had play in them.
My rear hub had a nut to compress the bearing but it doesn’t take the play out.Newer hubs may have this play sorted out as users on American forums didn’t have this issue.They are similar to American Classic hubs.
I’d readily have another set of these wheels as they have been light and strong.

I have 2 sets of these hubs, one with WTB rims, t’other with 717s.
Both excellent and durable, albeit not particularly filthy use.
I would buy more without reservation.
I think the patent on the hub is the same number as the Am Class models.
I am certain the bearings are the same (unusual) size.

I got a LaserDisc hub as a replacement for the one that comes stock on the Speed TCS wheels. It’s miles better, pretty light and makes a nice noise. No issues so far in approximately 500kms of riding.

Thanks for your replys, just need a light wheel set for trundling around single track, very flat where I live.

Have got it down to
1. XT centrelock hubs, Stans 355, Dt Revolution spokes 1511g at £202
2. Superstar hubs and above 1500g £241
3. Superstars own build on Crest rims 1532g £220
4. WTB hubs, Stans 355, Dt Revs 1296g £258

Mmm decisions decisions , all weights without rim tape, skewers etc

Where are you getting the wtb hubs from? Sounds like a good price

You are right the weight is wrongly listed on CRC as 175g when its supposed to be 256g giving a total weight of 1426g, I had slipped up on my spreadsheet. Managed to find the spokes cheaper from Germany so in all it would be £240. The XT based build is 85g heavier at 1511g but only £183.50 bargain !

Out of that choice i’d go WTB hubs.
I’d rather have sealed roller bearing hubs than the XT cup and cone any day.
