I’ve nearly worn out one of my hips through cycling – 20+ years of aggressive hill climbing has taken its toll on my body.
I tore some cartilage in my hip about 18 months ago. An MRI diagnosed the tear and also identified a lump of bone on the top of my femur that, through so much cycling, has damaged the hip joint and now preludes osteo arthritis.
I’m 37 and built my first bike in 1994 (A Ridgeback 705RS)
It took over a year of NHS fumbling to get to the MRI scan – now having private health care I’ve had corrective surgery, and am currently on crutches and bored sh!tless at home.
I’ll pay an excess on my health care – and will continue to pay for it… but will continue to mountain bike – if not a little less aggressively on the climbs…
