the only reason these programs are on the telly is to deflect from the real problems in britain. working age benefit claimants are about the only adults who haven’t helped cause the current economic problems.

the middle classes borrowing too much, banks going bust, baby boomers getting old. these are the real problems, but not ones that attention is drawn to.

no, lets just blame the feckless poor.

most welfare spending goes on those over retirement age, but no one looks at this, about how well it’s targeted or about whether any money is wasted.

“I sat in a Jobcentre today, firstly a man literally jogged in wearing shorts and trainers to enquire where his disability living allowance was. Whe told he had to go and phne the processing centre he again literally jogged out”

“I saw one guy doing one arm push ups in the waiting area to pass the time, as he waited for the Job Centre staff to sort out his disability allowance.”

Quite remarkable really as disability living allowance is absolutely nothing to do with the job centre or it’s staff whatsoever and is in fact dealt with over the phone or by mail by a central call centre somewhere or another by a completely different organisation(the Pensions, Disability and Carers Service (DCS)).

Oh and it’s paid out for mental health issues as well, so either could legitimately have been jogging or doing push ups anyway.

just to put the record straight like 🙂

to see where I made an offensive comment…

It wasn’t you making an offensive comment which made you look like a prat imo, its the fact that Deadly wiped the floor with you ……. for a little fella he can be quite, well, deadly, sometimes.

Obviously you were quite oblivious to it all though.

I’m inclined to disagree with you Elfin, but I’ll save you the trouble of posting a picture of a flyover or something and get back to watching Jamie trying to make America eat healthily.

Oh, and I’m still yet to get this notion of winning on internet forums…

Well I thought that too, but that’s what he seemed to be saying…….he was talking very softly and I was straining very hard to hear.

Some people are so inconsiderate 😐

No backlash from me. I’m just looking at Poor Kids on Beeb1.

“Sam lives with with father and sister. His mother walked out on the family on Sam’s 2nd Birthday”

They get by £420 a month. The poverty line is around £1000 per month. In Sam’s words…”we have to get what we need, not what we want”.

    Life’s **** great on benefits isn’t it?!?

Contrary to popular belief, the JobCentre do jack all to help people back into work. I have been unemployed for 6 months now and for all the moeny they have given me in that time I could have taken a number of qualifications that would have me working in no time. I have said to them numerous times that I would happily take a labouring job on a building site if they put me through the necessary tickets to allow me to work on one.

You doing another Biggin Hill ride this year?

Well we were going to, but then we discovered that last year was the last Biggin Hill Air Show for ever 🙁

EDIT : but Addiscombe CC will be riding through Biggin Hill tomorrow morning roadie style. 10 o’clock at East Croydon station if you want to join us, back by oneish. There’s going to be at least one beginner tomorrow, so the pace should be fine for your shopping bike.

    Really? Blimey! 🙁

Ah that’s a shame. But how about another ride down that way anyway? I enjoyed that.

I’ll bring a more suitable bike though, and wear proper shoes. I know the shopping basket and sandals upset you.

tadeuszkrieger – he is correct if you are on the sick you dont need to sign on therefore you have no need to attend a job centre. You would have to deal with the benefits agency who have nothing to do with JC+ [ jobcentreplus] though they will let you use the phone to call them till you shout then they ask you to leave.
They are both part of DWP and civil servants

I think many people, speshly some on here, seriously have no idea about the reality of life for many people on benefits. I met a young woman a couple of years ago, had a toddler who was blind. They were waiting to be housed, but the local council had pushed them from pillar to post, in and out of ‘temporary accommodation’. Meaning the little girl barely had time to adjust to her surroundings, and was becoming quite withdrawn and unhappy. Blind children need stable, familiar surroundings so they can become fully adjusted to their home environment and feel safe.

Proper upset me, listening to her. I’d like anyone who dismisses all benefit claimants with scorn and contempt to come and see the reality for many people.

Of course, that might take a bit more effort than laughing at someone on the telly.

I’d like to see the episode where ‘Employment Nanny’ or whatever she’s called rocks up on the estate in Glasgow where 88% of families are living below the poverty line…

    Just seen this Elfie :

Ernie; you have no idea just how convoluted local government politics in Tower Hamlets is. Loads of dodgy dealings going on.

And mayors with dodgy names. Why the German/Jewish sounding name, when the mayor is clearly neither German nor Jewish ? 😯

if they put me through the necessary tickets to allow me to work on one.

construction industry is on its knees and a CSCS card wont get you a job not will training. try looking in to some LMI [ labour market information.
You can do the CSCS card test for £17.50 – the book costs £15 and your library should have a copy. It then cost £30 for the card
The reason they wont pay you is there are literally hundreds of folk with the qualification you want and experience who cant find work. If you are so confident get a career development loan.
i dont have access to the research at home but would you like to guess at what percentage of people given a vocational course got a job- seriously have a guess.
Employers wont give you chance as you still lack experience trust me I do this shit for a living and work with people like those you saw on that programme
Get a job offer in writing and then go see an adviser and ask for ADF [ advisor discretionary fund ] and they will pay for it.

Well “Rahman” sounds Jewish to me. Or at least like the sort of name an SS concentration camp commandant might have ……..a bit like Eichman you could say. Any Pakistani/Muslim type who wants to call himself Rahman sounds well dodgy to me.

“he is correct if you are on the sick you dont need to sign on therefore you have no need to attend a job centre.”

If you are claiming incapacity benefit, then yes, it’s the job centre and DWP that would deal with it.However the Disability Living Allowance mentioned is not managed by the DWP is dealt with by the Pensions, Disability and Carers Service (DCS) and not dealt with in a job centre at all apart from perhaps, as you say them letting you use their phone.

The fact that both are civil servants is of no real consequence however,as both organisations are compartmentalised, for example The Foreign Office,HMRC,the DVLA and the Passport office are Civil servants as well, but I wouldn’t expect them to have a bloody clue about my DLA either.:)

you have highlighted my point – they don’t do anything to help. I ask for advice and they either pass the buck or point blank refuse to help. you have given me information here that someone in the JCtr will know but the pen pushers on the other side of the desk are too lazy get get off their asses and ask.
