  • Wood Stove – Broken glass. Is it anything special?

OK, so I realise that it has to withstand very high temperatures, but the manufacturers want £36:66 for one piece of glass (214mm x 225mm) plus £6 postage!

Will it be something I can get at my local glass supplier or is the glass so specialist that the only place I’ll get it from will be the stove manufacturer?

Any help or sarcasm will be greatly appreciated!

It’s a ceramic glass (I think) so needs a specialist (or ebay). £37 isn’t a lot in the grand scale of things.

Apparently it’s special because of its low thermal expansion properties…
The main reason I wanted to buy it locally was because we currently have no heating and I wanted it tomorrow!

Surely stove shops have rakes of sheets they can cut to suit?

    Or glaziers?

£37 is cheap for stove glass. Some Parkray ones are north of £90.

Stick your stoves name and model into eBay and see if you can find the glass on there.

It’s a special, low expansion, transparent glass ceramic.

If you’re in Liverpool, J.B. Treasure & Co. stock sheets of it (or used to).

Likely to be easier / more convenient / maybe cheaper to order from StoveSpares, etc.

My guess is trying to close the door with an oversized log in there? 😉
