Long shot but ….

Using some wire rope grips as part of a treehouse project and am struggling to find torque values for clamping

Grips are 6mm stainless to DIN 741 –

Vendor is closed today so I cant call ;-( and want to get building

Torque advice appreciated

Tighten until they strip, then back off 1/8th turn.

Can’t help directly with the torque values. However I’ve used these a lot offshore. Much more important than the outright torque is that they’re installed facing the correct way. Have a look at the Crosby Website for more info.

I’d put a Molly Hogan at the end of the rope then put the wire rope clips over the whole lot. You’ll probably have to look that one up but it makes a very secure connection. Banned in industrial use years ago, but a good way of putting an eye in the end of a wire when you’re short of the correct hardware.

For what? just domestic stuff at home?

You can splice, not as hard as it looks, depending on the size of wire.

The other option is to use ferrules and a set of crimps.

If you using them with Pelican Hooks as well, then you have done well to live that long!

As tight as we can when making an end stop on the tractor winch, plus an extra sacrificial one to get mashed by the sliders.

However I’ve used these a lot offshore.

How come ? Wire rope grips /Crosby clamps still widely used to day offshore.

Everything I use is going subsea. It’s all pre-made with thimbles and swages, load tested with certification and periodic inspections/paper trail.

The advent of the risk assessment did away with most ad-hoc rigging.

I have seen them to tidy stuff up but not for a lifting or pulling operation?

wire rope slings for pipe bundles when wineracks /rhino racks are not used.

not so much north sea but ROW.
