  • Winter commute/day to day gloves – neoprene?

My latest pair are worn out, I like a nice thick fabric glove that’s windproof and single layer – waterproof not needed as my commute is short and I hate multi layer gloves that a PITA to take off.

Is Neoprene a decent material? I’m aware it’s warm but concerned it’s a PITA to take on/off quickly and might smell a lot, eg:

Neoprene never worked for me .. Hands got clammy and wet and taking off with hands like prunes to pull wet/cold gloves back on 🙁

Thought still makes me shudder !!

I’m now using pogies (were on ebay for a tenner) – same as handlebar muffs for motorbikes – hands actually got too hot today

see also breezeblockers – same as motorbike enduro hadguards (*much ligter and thinner)

Poggies no good – drop bars

Mate has recommended these, may try them

There was a thread on here quite some time ago. On the basis of that, the best place for neoprene gloves are window cleaning supplies. Lots of choice and nice prices.
But the ones I got were sooo warm. If I get another pair I will go for the thinnest avaliable

As above though it needs to be Baltic before I will wear them (below zero for sure) otherwise you end up with ridiculously sweaty hands.

Endura FS260 in high vis green have been my cold ride glove this winter, not too clammy for my 10 mile fast commute, but I can see they’d be awkward to take on/off once damp

Having had some “interesting” meteorological conditions on recent rides and with one being especially miserable in the effective gloves department I came across a recommendation on another thread for Endura Deluge gloves.

Had two rides out in them so far and while the temperatures haven’t been sub-zero they haven’t exactly been caribbean in nature either. Hands have been toasty warm on both rides. I’ve yet to try them in a genuine deluge to see if they live up to their name.

Ordinary heavy road gloves with silk lining gloves work for me. Neoprine gloves are warm but clammy. So not the best in dry cold conditions.

Think I’m gonna go for these (at trade price), I had their predecessor, worked and lasted well.

I find Defeet Dura glove, they’re excellent although not neoprene, found other gloves like sealskins too warm and a PITA to remove.
