Windows XP, new hard drive, no sound device now???

I popped a new hard drive into an old laptop for the daughter to use, installed windows etc but it won’t play sound, I-tunes and WMP say there is no sound device.

I have downloaded what i think is the latest sound device driver from the laptop manufacturers (DELL) web site but that’s not worked either.

In control panel under sounds and devices it says there isn’t one….

Where has it gone to then?

    Any assistance would be welcomed.

is it possible you may have unseated something accidentally whilst installing the new HDD?
but yeah, check the BIOS to see if the physical device is installed/enabled.

    EDIT- never mind!
