  • Will Shimano shifter work with Sram rear mech?

Numpty tech question. I’m trying to build a play bike as cheap as poss and these are the bits in my garage. Are they compatible?

Asking now whilst at work in case I need to visit LBS before finishing the build tonight.

    Thanks in advance.

You can get SRAM shifters which will work with a shimano rear mech, but shimano shifters will *not* work with an SRAM rear mech.

Front mechs are fine as they have the same cable pull ratios.

You need to visit the lbs.

Sram normally use 1 to 1 ratio.

    Isn’t shimano 2 to 1?

I think you’ll need a sram ‘rocket’ shifter that will work with shimano rear mechs. They seem to pop up 2nd hand in boot sales etc.

SRAM NUMBERED SHIFTER x8,7,9,0 will not work with shimano, SRAM rocket shifters will.
