If she is into paintings/prints/photography – is there a particular gallery that you know she likes? I’m giving my wife a painting for her 30th birthday hence the suggestion.

For a serious answer, how about a weekend break somewhere in Europe she’s always wanted to go. But on her own, so she gets some time away from the kids.

RichPenny – she’s better travelled than anyone else I know, has lived and worked all over the world.. It’s a good suggestion though.

An old bedsheet with Happy 40th to (insert wifes full name) strung up poorly nearest the main road junction to your house. Preferably with her name not quite fitting in. She will just need ya even more. Or a spa day/weekend pampering.

Have you done the eternity ring thing? My wife was 40 this year and was dropping heavy hints about one but I took her to Venice instead! (the ring will have to wait till the 10th anniversary)

My mrs didn’t have an iPod until last Xmas so I bought her one and loaded it with hundreds of 80’s disco classics that she had on her long since unused mix tapes which I found when we were moving house. She loved that. 8)

Or what about a nice watch?

And if you are nice, she might even let you go on the trip too !

I am sure I remember you posting once George that you and the wife hadn’t been out on your own since the first kid arrived, so I reckon that sounds like a really nice idea. But as I have never met your wife don’t take my word…

A new mop or ironing board cover? I gave Mrs Sox those for Christmas the other year, whilst hiding her proper pressies behind the sofa.
    Oh, how she laughed…………much later.

Still losing sign language. I have asked her though.

SbZ, I bet she did loads of that traveling on her own too, loving the freedom and adventure of it all. At 40 and with a husband and kids, I bet she frequently reminisces about those great times. For so long her life has been entwined with yours and the childrens that she might think those days are gone forever. Would be a great gift I think.

http://www.tiffany.co.uk/ Should be something to taste and budget. Bought my wife a small diamond necklace. Don’t even think of trying on the cheap, so much fake goods around. Take her to the shop.

    EDIT: How about…

    Look under Jewellery\Favourites Under £500

Listen to what she moans/struggles with?

Or something simple and vouchers to spend on her favorite shop?

    Bike frame with your size?

Dinner at Le Manoir ? Not cheap but genuinly luxurious> It’s properly posh – they make you feel welcome whoever you are.
