I’m not a Beatles fan nor a John Lennon fan but why is this song so good? (In my opinion of course)

Because the record companies tell us so.

Because there’s a lot of very very optimistic hippies.

Speaking as a (now shorn) hippy, it’s guff… But then I never really liked it with long hair on, either. Sorry.

Meh. Mawkish, overly sentimental and twee. Neither Lennon nor McCartney are as good solo as they are together, my favourite ex-Beatle songs are Ringo’s, It Don’t Come Easy is a terrific song, I’ve loved it from when it was released, and quite a few of his others as well.

    I can’t see it, but I’m guessing it’s Imagine.

    Dreadful.

Coz it’s a rather “quiet” song with no one shouting loudly …

Ringo is def my favourite Beatle (because he was the funniest) but I never knew his solo stuff was any good. Just listened to ‘It Don’t Come Easy’, I surprised how good it was 🙂

I’ve always had a soft spot for ‘Maybe I’m Amazed’ by Macca, and I tried to post it here but it’s been pulled from YouTube.

‘Tis, innit! He’s a good musician, is Ringo; nothing too flashy in his drumming, but keeps the beat, and is exactly the right drummer for the band. But then he does something like Tomorrow Never Knows…

I can’t imagine either Lennon or McCartney coming up with that on their own.

ITsa lennon song and Ringo gets no credit

Neither Lennon nor McCartney are as good solo as they are together

Itsa myth that they wrote together they wrote their own songs and had minor “collaborations/input ” from the others

Unlike many songwriting partnerships that comprise separate lyricist and composer,[1] both Lennon and McCartney wrote words and music. Sometimes, especially early on, they would collaborate extensively when writing songs, working “nose to nose and eyeball to eyeball”.[2] Later, it became more common for one of the two credited authors to write all or most of a song with limited input from the other.

By an agreement made before the Beatles became famous, Lennon and McCartney were credited equally with songs that either one of them wrote while their partnership lasted.
