AFAIK insurance used to work like that – you simply insured it based on it’s value and away you went – which meant a lot of 17 year olds in XR2s and the like and all the carnage that went with it – then of course we had joy-riding, ram raiding and whiplash. So now everything is underwritten based on risk so my Mum can insure her new Golf which cost twice the OPs Truck for £200a year or so which, especially considering the relative average income of Thailand makes the Thai system a bit of a rip off.

Of course I once spent £1800 to insure VR6 Golf for a year ha ha

Mass isn’t always your friend – Id choose a smaller lighter 5 star car over a 2 or 3 star barge. (not that this Volvo is likely to have a rating). There is a similar video somewhere with an old Espace V something newer/smaller.

The issue isn’t the cost at all – it the fact that they deliberately ignore legislation directing them to take into account the driver’s no claims.
The reason just about everywhere else insures the vehicle is because you can only drive ONE vehicle at a time.
Therefore the no claims is supposed to be across the board.
Not in this country- the industry makes it a “contractual requirement ” that you “assign” the NC to one vehicle.
Any other vehicles don’t get this despite the fact that if you’re driving them you can’t drive the first!!
Same way they don’t allow van NC on a car, car NC on a van, bike NC, etc…
Has sod all to do with risk and everything to do with money..
