Cant beleve no-one’s mentioned the Gene Genie:

Hunt: They reckon you’ve got concussion – but personally, I couldn’t give a tart’s furry cup if half your brains are falling out. Don’t ever waltz into my kingdom playing king of the jungle.
Tyler: Who the hell are you?
Hunt: I’m Gene Hunt. Your DCI. And it’s 1973. Nearly dinner time. I’m ‘aving hoops

Inspector Morose & Lewis sat outside the Victoria Arms in The Remorseful Day – one of my favourite TV scenes ever.

    It has to be Bergerac.

I particularly liked the way that despite Jersey being about the same size as the park at the end of my road Jim was constantly finding villages that he’d never been to before. I thought that showed a surprising lack of imagination on his part.

Belker was a bit of a star, but in all honestly, it’s either Regan or Columbo.

Banacek (admittedly he was a freelance insurance investigator not a detective).

What am I saying, Bergerac is the best anyway.
