My mate has just purchased a house and under the stairs i found a Burch boiler, these were mainly used for washing clothes and heating water for bathtime, but these days it seems they can be used making beer.

Also i found some old leather calf gaiters and an old bicycle lantern.

From a quick inspection it's a miller carbide lattern, gives off about 2 lummens

    I think it's probably a burco boiler

seems a bit strange to put gaiters on livetock. that's bridgwater for you.

You can get some fine results from sparging your own wort 🙂

I have done it in the past, but I don't have a boiler anymore so I have to use kits… there's a book called 'brewing beers like those you buy' which is somewhat out of date, but the recipes are great. I put my own brewed Fuller's ESB agaunst some real ESB in a local pub and they were definitely the same thing.

I was just thinking about getting the brew kit out again, have the urge back after putting it aside when moving flat. Would like to have a go at a good mild, if only for the fact that you can't seem to get it up here in Scotland.
