I’ve had terrible trouble with my M585 (LX) disc brakes the last couple of winters with loss of lever pull and protruding pistons at temperatures around freezing and below. Apparently it’s down to dodgy seals that harden in the cold. I was told by someone on here that this was an issue that should have been sorted a long time ago but judging to other posts it still plagues some later SLX and XT callipers.

Shimano suggest that the Deore M595 callipers are a suitable replacement for my M585s and say that they’ve had no reported issues. Has anyone tried these in the cold? What other Shimano calllipers do/don’t exhibit this issue? It’s not an issue for now but I might need new calliper before next winter.

my old lx calipers went a bit leaky, they’re now hanging up in shame on a hook in the cellar.

my slx / deore brakes have been fine…
