I get a basic (very) Nokia with work and want to upgrade to soemthing a bit more useful without spending a fortune.

Whilst i would love an Iphone or an HTC Desire – icant justify that amount of cash – when i can't get any "contract" type deals.

Mainly i want a reasonably robust phone, with a decent camera, ability to check emails and basic web access – ideally for less than £150. I like the look of the Samsung Tocco – http://www.play.com/Mobiles/Mobile/4-/5192177/-/Product.html

    Any thoughts………….

    HTC Smart

Can be bought as an O2 payg phone for £100, so maybe add ten quid to turn it 'sim free'

got accidentally upgraded above my contract at work and have ended up with a nokia e52, does a load of stuff, still has buttons (it's the screens we crack mostly), metal framed and isn't too chunky

no idea of price though, but not that new or popular = cheap?

Web access on iPhone/N900/Newer android is a level above anything else. Pretty much most other stuff falls under the category of "useable" rather than the great experience these offer. I would suggest a second hand iPhone, new ones out this week means more on the s/h market. However you said robust, so touchscreens not a great idea there…

Do you have a data contract to use it for web browsing or would it be mostly on wifi? An ipod touch might satisfy most of the portable gadgety cravings at a lower price?
