What about a Foes FXR?
OK the small bump response isn't quite as good as some however, point it down a hill and it's faster than pretty much anything in it's class over the rough stuff.
Also, you can stamp on the pedals and climb standing up with virtually no bob and no levers to flick.. worth a try if you can find a dealer near you (give jamie@balfa a call to find your local dealer).

One bike with one set of kit is not the answer.
Buy a bike for what you do most, and then for the stuff you do once in blue-moon buy additional components. So say 32/Revelations for UK, and 36 coils for the Alps plus a set of wider rims/tyres?

Love my Heckler, would of gone for a Nomad if I had the pennies at the time I bought my Heckler, although a 36 fox and coil shock would be the business instead of the 32 float & RP23 I have on it now. When I tested a Nomad it felt very plush and relaxed Geometry and laughed at rock gardens, would love to take the new Nomad & a 5 Spot out to compare.

Titus el-guapo going very cheap on the Jenson website.. and they will ship Titus to the UK (unlike Fox etc).
You'll have to add the usual 20-something percent in VAT and import duty but still a bargain!
