  • Where to stash tools for bagless riding?
  • Mugboo
    Full Member

A lot of my rides are local and not too far and I’m loving the feeling of not using a bag. I’m tubeless so that helps (but will obviously go wrong at some point).
Is there a water bottle which holds water and has a tool compartment?
Is there a saddle pack that works with Reverbs?
Maybe I’ll just cut a nice big hole in my downtube like a Specialized 🙂

Ortlieb Micro saddle bag works with a reverb, I think Specialised make a bottle cage with a tool compartment on the back of it too

i have a large water bottle type of tool carrier which i can just about squeeze the tools and tube etc in.

    this kind of thing

works well. i can swap from bike to bike without rounding up all the seperate tools. i like it

Topeak have just released something I think. TBH my last rides I’ve taken nothing as they’ve been laps of the local woods and I figured I’d just bail if I had to, I’m not dead yet that I’m aware of, although I should have taken water last evening.

One of the small roadie saddlebags should be enough. It shouldn’t foul on the Reverb they sit fairly high. Maybe something like an Alpkit Fuel Pod (though they are sold out ATM) mounted on the front end of the top tube.

Don’t know of any combined tool/water bidons, most of the tool carriers are in-place of a water bottle. From that I take it that you have only one set of cage bosses? You could add another using something like the DMR mounts though this assumes that your bike has circular not profiled tubing – I’ve done this on mine.

Specialized do a SWAT cage which has an integrated multi tool, i think. They dd a range of clever things, not all of them specialized-specific.

    This might help too

Specialized SWAT cage with multi tool is great. Top cap chain tool as well.

Thanks folks, yep, 1 set of bottle bosses but round tubes.
I check out all those options. I also have a small neaprene bumbag for running and 45 so not too proud to use it 🙂

Race Face stash tank Base Layer or race face stash bibs, or specialized swat bibs.

The stash tank will also take a small bladder for drinks.

Available yet in the UK? I’ve had more luck finding Lord Lucan

That Ortlieb mini looks good, do they do spare mounts?

The Scraper from the nice folks, does it not rub against the post? I can’t tell from the photos.

Maybe there’s an opportunity to build a combined water & stash bottle?

Just don’t take anything. If rides are local just accept that one day you may be walking home. It’s worked out fine for me for the last few years since going tubeless. Had one unfixable puncture in that time and I do plenty of miles.

Thing is though, it’s bound to happen on the one day when I really really need to be home in time for that really really important thingy!

And that will be the day you fing out the pump you’ve been carrying for years no longer works after its seals have perished.

Yep, they do spare mounts for the Ortlieb for a fiver.

I use an Alpkit top tube bag, but up against the seat post. Large size is big enough for tube, small pump, multi tool amd chain tool. That leaves bottle bosses free for bottles. I got some elasticated velcro straps which keep it secure.

Thanks Shredder, 330 ml water, not enough, maybe that’s why there aren’t so many.

I was about to suggest a saddle bag (I use one on the SS) but then I saw…

Is there a saddle pack that works with Reverbs?

I’ve got a camelback hip pouch thing that has a zip pocket and a bottle carrier. Holds keys, chain links , zip ties and a multitool and I’ve not lost the bottle out of it

Just feel a bit w@nky wearing it sometimes!!

Stash tank was available when I got mine last year so imagine the bibs would be via silverfish?

SWAT bib only used to come with the shorts too, but sure I’ve seen that you can get them on there own now, which I need to look into as I’ve ripped my original ones.

    I take my phone

So do I but its not much use in the middle of a forest for a couple of reasons – probably no reception, it wouldn’t be possible to drive there to pick me up.

I use a wee cog bag if I’m going back packless.

I use a toptube bag but relocate it as low as possible. They’re long enough to get tools, spares, and a decent pump in with space left over for nibblies.

less than a fiver for a carbon stumpy, seems legit.
