Don’t be afraid to make offers. Prices have been dropping steadily and a lot of sellers don’t update their pricing to reflect that.

I almost always accept offers.

Ideally from the bands at gigs as it’s the best way to get money to them. Otherwise I generally get my wax from the lovely peeps at my local vinyl emporium (empire records, st Albans).

They’re usually not much more than Amazon and they’re not tax dodging scum, winner.

I have several specialist record shops nearby in Kingston Upon Thames etc. I also buy lots on ebay and finally direct from a number of labels on line like Tru Thoughts, Ubiquity etc. If I find something I like not available from my usual spots I just google it, add the word vinyl and bobs your uncle. Not everything is available obviously and worse still some bands are trying to charge 20-25 quid for a poorly pressed album because vinyl is trendy for a while. I bought a London Grammar Album that is virtually unplayable as whoever mixed it down had no idea what they were doing.

My LRS for new records is Resident records

They are in brighton but do mail order too and have a lovely website

But worth supporting your local independent record shop if you are lucky enough to have a decent one nearby. Still prefer buying new and 2nd hand records in a shop to online

Secondhand in shops/ online/ occasionally fairs. New stuff from Juno or individual labels.

Both Picadilly & Resident mentioned above are great shops, but opp ends of the country.

I have tried in the past buying second hand, online, but the quality can be very poor to unplayable.

I don’t buy a great amount any more, so when I do, I don’t mind paying a little extra to get the best possible condition.

I would rather support a local face to face shop, they also get to know what I am after.

We get most of our records (we order at least once a month) from Spillers records in Cardiff (http://www.spillersrecords.co.uk/) and we live in Birmingham! Really ace people but the web site is rubbish – just give them a call or tweet at them if you can’t find it – it will soon appear on the site 🙂 They seem to be able to get just about anything in, no matter how obscure.

Piccadilly and Rise are also good. Sometimes use Rough Trade if they have a special that you can only get from them.

The best bit about actually talking to a record shop is that you’ll get recommendations on stuff you might not of heard, or if they know you like a particular band random stickers/free demos etc, or they’ll hold rare stuff back for you.

Last month we got a signed LP we had pre-ordered as the artist was in the shop so the owner got it signed for us 😀
