  • When to get a new mobile contract?

My current mobile phone deal is coming to an end in January and I have started to look around for a new one as i’m definitely over paying for what I use.

A week or 2 back I saw a deal from a network that i thought i would go for but now it has gone and will probably cost me more each month. I know the phone I want and I know roughly how much I want to pay – I’ve spoken to my current network who are unable to supply me with what I want.

Are there any times of the year which are better to look for a new deal than other times? is the run up to Christmas likely to be more expensive than after? Should I wait and speak to my network when I’m out of contract and see if they can do better then?

Give notice on current contract before end of December (1mth notice required) if haggling doesn’t get you the deal you want.

    Ask for PAC.

Mid January find a new deal and use PAC before its expiry.

This way it reduces the overlap cost on contracts.

I realise that is the cheapest way of changing however, it might not get me the best deal. if I can get a deal that saves me £2.50 a month thats £60 over a 24 month contract and therefore it’d be worth changing to now rather than at my current contract’s end.

After speaking to the retentions team I went from £30 per month to £10.50 a month. Tweaked the contract a bit less mins as i never used as much as i was allowed for more data.

Had 3 accounts up for renewal so that might’ve helped as well all are now on £10.50 instead of paying £90 I’m paying just over £30 a month

Not if it’s a £30/mth contract and you have to double up for 2 mths.
